9 DAYS UNTIL THE PREMIERE OF ALF'S HIT TALK SHOW!

The following was written by one of my co-workers/go-kart teammates. (I hope to have a link to photos from the race here at the Pond soon. Stay tuned.)

Subject: Toledo Speedway Invitational - AND THE WINNER IS ...

Maritz Research, Car #40
... and in a decisive fashion!

The action was fast and furious at the Toledo Speedway last Thursday as Team Maritz went head-to-head with 21 other area corporate go-kart teams in the annual Toledo Speedway Invitational. The third time was the charm for the event, which had twice been postponed due to rain. The temperature was chilly, but Team Maritz was hot as they blew away the competition, crossing the checkered flag a good five seconds ahead of their nearest competitor.

John L. and Aaron D. were the drivers for the event, with Ducksoup performing pit duties. Tony D. was on stand-by as pit mechanic. The team was chomping at the bit after waiting almost two weeks to run the race. The first heat saw Team Maritz finishing a heart-breaking second after being boxed into the pit area by an inexperienced competitor. Ducksoup saved the day by actually lifting and moving our car so we could get back on the track. Our racers took their revenge in their second heat race, coming in first after good positioning in the first half of the race by John L. and an aggressive pass by Aaron D. in the second half. Our second and first place finishes in the first two heats put us on the outside pole for the championship race. Tension was high and the excitement was tangible as Team Maritz faced off for the final race of the night against the best cars at the track. John L. raced an incredible first half, staying neck and neck with the #42 car. The two drivers came into the pits almost simultaneously. After a lightening-quick driver change, Aaron D. came out of the pit in the lead and was able to maintain the lead for the remainder of the race, pulling away from the pack and crossing the checkered flag all alone.

Thanks to all of you who came out to support the team last Thursday and who have offered words of congratulations and encouragement. If you weren't able to make this race, be sure not to miss the JA Mini Grand Prix in the Owens Corning parking lot on Saturday, August 7. Heat races start at 10 a.m. with the championship race beginning at approximately 5 p.m. There will be over 50 teams at this event, and with our big win last Thursday everybody will be gunning for Maritz Research, car #40. We will need all the support and cheering power we can get (plus, I guarantee that you will have a good time).

Stop by and congratulate your team members on their victory and don't miss the five-foot-high trophy in the lobby! Hopefully we'll be adding one more in August!
