FRANK GILHOOLEY
1924-2010




There is no joy in Mudville on this day. Toledo broadcast legend and long-time Mud Hens announcer Frank Gilhooley has passed away at the age of 86.

Gilhooley worked as a radio broadcaster for 24 years with the Toledo Mud Hens. A legend in Toledo broadcasting, he had over 50 years of experience in television and radio.

Gilhooley previously served as the sports director at WTVG-TV 13 along with announcing several Ohio State football games. He also has the distinction of playing for the legendary Toledo Jeeps, when Gilhooley traveled with the Harlem Globetrotters for two years as a member of the opposing team.

A native of Toledo, Gilhooley played both baseball and basketball at the University of Notre Dame. Gilhooley's father, Frank Sr., played with the New York Yankees from 1913-18 and was a teammate of legendary slugger Babe Ruth in Boston.
